Scrolls, Parchment, Feather, and You!
To begin writing or taking notes for your boss, you must use a quill (feather) on either a parchment or scroll. There are differences between the two, but for the purposes of taking notes either are sufficient. Be aware that after finalizing your writing, there is no way to erase what has been written! Ink is final, after all. Max character for scrolls is 2000 characters.
Making more scrolls is a simple matter, and only requires the following:
1 Small Log + 50u Water, Drying Rack, and Knife
Drying rack itself can be made from 3 sticks
Note: If you lack feather, a thorn can be used to write as well!
Tomes of the Archivist
If you are an archivist, you have access to every tome and book written that has been placed into the bookshelves by archivists prior. Should you wish to write a piece of knowledge or record history in the making yourself, you can find a "Book Crafting Kit" randomly within the bookshelves. Once finished with your masterpiece, simply place it back in the shelf to leave it for future knowledge seekers!
So You're a Fastidious Gate Guard...
Congratulations, travelers coming and going hate you! In all seriousness, a gate guard taking proper notes and issuing passports can be a great RP hook and cause entertainment for an otherwise boring shift. Be sure to issue scrolls to important dignitaries who pass often, and parchment for the less esteemed. If someone is entering without a passport, then they either have someone to vouch for entry and are made one or should be denied (or extorted for coin!)
This is doubly true for the bog gates, as remembering faces for tolling purposes can be dubious at best. Issuing some form or receipt at the very least, while time consuming, can make things more interesting.
